Heavy-Duty Carbon Filtration for High-Airflow Extraction Systems

The RAM AirTECH HEAVY Carbon Filter is a high-capacity activated carbon filter designed for large grow rooms and powerful extraction systems. The range includes 250 mm and 315 mm connection sizes with maximum airflow ratings from 2,000 m³/h to 4,250 m³/h.

Each filter uses premium Australian activated carbon packed by machine to create a dense and consistent 60 mm carbon bed. An expanding Acoustafoam ring maintains pressure on the carbon filling, helping to reduce gaps through which untreated air could otherwise pass.

Machine-Packed Australian Activated Carbon

AirTECH HEAVY filters contain premium Australian activated carbon held within concentric perforated steel cylinders. Air drawn through the filter passes across the deep carbon bed, where odour-producing compounds are adsorbed onto the carbon’s internal surface.

The carbon is packed mechanically to improve density and consistency. A ring of expanding Acoustafoam helps maintain compaction during transport and operation, reducing the risk of gaps forming within the carbon bed.

Heavy-Duty Zintec Construction

The internal cylinders, outer body and end caps are manufactured from perforated Zintec zinc-coated steel sheet. This reinforced construction supports the weight of the deep carbon bed and makes the filter suitable for demanding extraction installations.

The perforated mesh provides a stated 55% open area, allowing extracted air to enter the carbon bed across a broad surface while maintaining structural strength.

Choosing the Correct AirTECH HEAVY Filter

Select a connection diameter that matches the extraction fan and ducting. The fan’s working airflow must remain within the filter’s maximum rated capacity.

Where two filters share the same connection size, the longer filter supports a higher airflow because it provides a larger carbon-filtration surface. For example, the 250/1000 model supports a higher airflow than the shorter 250/660 model.

The unrestricted airflow quoted for an extraction fan may fall once a carbon filter, ducting, bends, silencers and other components are installed. The completed ventilation system should therefore be considered when matching the fan and filter.

Installation

  1. Check that the filter connection matches the fan and ducting diameter.
  2. Confirm that the supporting structure can safely carry the filter’s full weight.
  3. Mount the filter with correctly rated straps, brackets or a compatible filter stand.
  4. Connect it to the extraction fan with suitable ducting or a quick-release clamp.
  5. Seal every connection to stop untreated air bypassing the carbon filter.
  6. Configure the system to draw air through the filter before discharging it from the room.

Pre-Filter Care and Carbon Replacement

The supplied outer pre-filter captures dust and larger airborne particles before they reach the activated carbon. Inspect the sleeve regularly and clean it according to the supplied care instructions. It must be completely dry before refitting.

Activated carbon gradually becomes saturated. Replace the complete filter when odour control declines despite correct installation, clean ducting and an appropriate airflow rate. Service life varies according to humidity, temperature, contaminant levels, operating hours and airflow.

Important Information

The RAM AirTECH HEAVY is a passive carbon filter and must be connected to a suitably rated extraction fan. A fan, ducting, clamps, support system and speed controller are not included unless the filter is purchased as part of a separate ventilation kit.

These filters are large and heavy. Always confirm dimensions, access routes and safe mounting capacity before ordering or installing the selected variant.
