Xtreme Gardening MYKOS Mycorrhizae – Beneficial Fungi for Strong Root Development
Xtreme Gardening MYKOS Mycorrhizae is a natural granular mycorrhizal root inoculant designed to establish beneficial fungi directly around the root zone. MYKOS contains the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Rhizophagus intraradices, which forms a symbiotic relationship with plant roots and effectively extends the area through which plants can access water and nutrients.
Suitable for vegetables, fruit, herbs, flowers and a wide range of ornamental plants, MYKOS can be used with soil, coco and other growing media. It is compatible with both mineral and natural fertiliser programmes, making it a versatile biological root-zone additive for home gardeners and professional horticultural applications.
Key Features & Benefits
- Pure mycorrhizal inoculant: contains the beneficial arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Rhizophagus intraradices.
- 300 propagules per gram: concentrated granular formulation for direct root-zone application.
- Supports nutrient uptake: fungal hyphae extend beyond the root surface, increasing the area available for accessing nutrients.
- Supports water uptake: the established mycorrhizal network helps roots access moisture throughout the growing media.
- Encourages root establishment: particularly useful when planting and transplanting where direct root contact can be achieved.
- Single-species formulation: MYKOS does not contain Trichoderma, ectomycorrhizae or additional microbial species.
- Broad media compatibility: suitable for use across a wide range of growing media.
- Flexible feeding compatibility: can be incorporated alongside both mineral and natural fertiliser programmes.
How MYKOS Mycorrhizae Works
MYKOS works by establishing a mutually beneficial relationship between Rhizophagus intraradices and compatible plant roots. Once colonisation takes place, microscopic fungal structures known as hyphae extend beyond the plant's existing root system and explore a greater volume of growing media.
This expanded biological network can improve the plant's ability to access available water and nutrients. In return, the plant supplies the beneficial fungus with carbohydrates produced through photosynthesis, allowing the relationship to continue as the root system develops.
Ideal for Transplanting & Root Establishment
Granular MYKOS is particularly well suited to transplanting because the inoculant can be positioned directly around the root zone. Applying the granules close to the roots provides the fungus with the opportunity to establish the root contact required for mycorrhizal colonisation.
MYKOS can be used with established horticultural crops as well as young plants and transplants, where encouraging an efficient and well-developed root system is important.

How to Use Xtreme Gardening MYKOS
Apply MYKOS directly around the root zone so that the granular inoculant is positioned as close to the roots as practical. When transplanting, place the inoculant where it can make direct contact with or sit immediately around the root system before filling around the plant with growing media.
For ongoing horticultural programmes, the manufacturer recommends root-zone application through the vegetative and early flowering stages. Always follow the directions supplied on the product packaging for the relevant plant, container and growing method.
Growing Media & Nutrient Compatibility
MYKOS is designed for use across a broad range of growing media and can be incorporated into both naturally and mineral-fed horticultural programmes. Because MYKOS is a granular inoculant, it is particularly suited to applications where the product can be placed physically around the roots.
For water-based applications where a dispersible product is required, Xtreme Gardening produces MYKOS WP as a separate wettable-powder formulation.
MYKOS Granular vs MYKOS WP
MYKOS Granular is designed primarily for direct placement around roots and is an excellent choice for transplanting and growing-media applications. MYKOS WP is a separate water-dispersible formulation intended for applications where the inoculant needs to be mixed with water.
Choosing the appropriate formulation helps place the beneficial fungi where they can establish effectively within the root zone.
Important Information
MYKOS relies on establishing a biological relationship with compatible plant roots. Results can therefore vary according to plant species, growing conditions, media, nutrition, environmental conditions and application technique. Apply according to the manufacturer's current instructions and store the product as directed on the original packaging.
