Cultiwool Stonewool Range | Hydroponic Propagation & Large Growing Blocks
The Cultiwool Stonewool Range provides premium, high-density mineral wool growing media engineered specifically for clean hydroponic cultivation and rapid root development. Spun from molten basaltic rock at ultra-high temperatures, this inert, sterile substrate ensures an entirely pathogen-free environment that prevents root rot and unwanted pests.
The range is structurally optimised with an advanced, thin-fibre vertical layout that maximises capillary action and maintains a highly precise, uniform air-to-water ratio. This airy structure prevents structural compaction, allowing young roots to penetrate the medium effortlessly. Available from small starter plugs up to larger transplanting blocks, this versatile stonewool range gives growers absolute control over their nutrient delivery without any chemical nutrient lockup.
Product Features
  • Optimal Air-to-Water Balance: Retains an even spread of nutrient solutions while leaving plenty of oxygen space to avoid waterlogging.
  • Inert Growing Environment: Completely free of baseline nutrition or contaminants, allowing for precise, customised EC and pH dosing.
  • Integrated Base Drainage: Large blocks feature cross-grooved drainage slots on the bottom to prevent water pooling and promote air-pruning.
  • Durable Algae-Proof Wrap: The larger transplanting cubes are wrapped in an anti-UV foil layer to completely block out light and halt algae growth.
  • Donut Ring Technology (8" Block): Features an industry-first water chamber ring surrounding the central plug hole, ensuring perfect dripper placement and uniform water distribution.

Step-by-Step Conditioning & Usage Guide
Follow this guide to prepare your stonewool blocks correctly before introducing your plants.
Step 1: Pre-Soak and pH Adjustment
  • Because raw stonewool has a naturally high initial pH, you must pre-condition the blocks.
  • Submerge the cubes completely in a water butt filled with water adjusted to a pH of 5.5.
  • Leave the blocks to soak for approximately 60 seconds to fully saturate the internal micro-fibres.
Step 2: Draining Excess Water
  • Lift the blocks out of the water solution and allow the excess water to drain naturally from the base grooves.
  • Important: Never squeeze the blocks to wring them out, as crushing the internal structure permanently destroys the critical air pockets.
Step 3: Sowing or Inserting Plugs
  • For starter plugs, place your seed directly into the top indentation and cover lightly with vermiculite.
  • For the larger 3", 4", 6", and 8" cubes, take your fully rooted starter plug and drop it directly into the matching central hole cavity. Ensure a flush fit.
Step 4: System Integration
  • Place your pre-conditioned blocks onto your hydroponic setup, such as a Flood & Drain table, NFT gully, or on top of large stonewool slabs with run-off trays.
  • Set your ongoing hydroponic nutrient irrigation to a stable target range between 5.7 and 6.2 pH.
