CANNA CALMAG AGENT is a concentrated calcium and magnesium water conditioner developed to prepare soft and reverse-osmosis (RO) water for use with CANNA nutrient programmes. It is designed to raise low starting EC to an appropriate mineral level before base nutrients and additives are introduced.

CANNA formulates its nutrient programmes around suitable source water with an EC of approximately 0.4 mS/cm. Where source water contains insufficient dissolved minerals, CALMAG AGENT can be used to raise the starting EC and provide additional calcium and magnesium before the normal feeding programme is mixed.

What Does CANNA CALMAG AGENT Do?

Water quality can have a significant effect on nutrient management. Very soft and reverse-osmosis water contains relatively few dissolved minerals and may provide insufficient calcium and magnesium for the nutrient programme it is being used with.

CANNA CALMAG AGENT is used to condition this water before nutrients are mixed. Rather than applying a fixed dose regardless of water quality, CANNA recommends measuring the starting EC and adding CALMAG AGENT until the water reaches approximately 0.4 mS/cm.

CANNA CALMAG AGENT Dosage

Important: these figures represent CANNA's dosage range, not a requirement to use the maximum amount. The correct quantity depends on the EC and mineral content of the source water. Add only enough CALMAG AGENT to bring suitable soft or RO water to approximately 0.4 mS/cm EC.

How to Use CANNA CALMAG AGENT

1. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use.
2. Fill the nutrient reservoir with water at approximately 20–22°C.
3. Measure the starting EC with a calibrated EC meter.
4. Add CANNA CALMAG AGENT gradually at approximately 0.1–0.5 mL per litre.
5. Mix thoroughly and recheck the EC.
6. Continue until the water reaches approximately 0.4 mS/cm EC.
7. Add the normal recommended base nutrients and additives after the source water has been conditioned.
8. Check the final EC and pH before irrigation.

Using CANNA CALMAG AGENT with RO Water

Reverse-osmosis filtration removes a high proportion of dissolved minerals from source water. This can be useful where tap water contains excessive or undesirable dissolved salts, but it also removes calcium and magnesium.

CANNA CALMAG AGENT can be added to RO water to restore mineral content and raise the starting EC to approximately 0.4 mS/cm before the main nutrient programme is added.

Do You Need CALMAG AGENT with Normal Tap Water?

Not necessarily. CANNA considers water around the normal mineral range suitable for its nutrient programmes without additional CALMAG AGENT. The product is primarily intended for soft, very soft and RO water rather than being an additive that automatically needs to be included in every nutrient reservoir.

Measure the source-water EC before deciding whether CALMAG AGENT is required.

Hard Water & Poor-Quality Source Water

CALMAG AGENT should not simply be added to hard water that already contains substantial mineral content. Where source water has a high EC, CANNA recommends assessing the water quality and, where appropriate, using reverse-osmosis water to reduce unwanted dissolved minerals before rebuilding the starting water to the required EC.
