AutoPot AirDome: Advanced Root Zone Oxygenation
The AutoPot AirDome is a high-performance aeration tool engineered to increase the level of dissolved oxygen within the root zone of container-grown plants. By delivering a constant supply of air directly to the base of the substrate, the AirDome accelerates plant metabolism, enhances nutrient uptake, and promotes the development of a massive, healthy root system. It is a vital upgrade for growers looking to maximise yields in AutoPot modules or any large pot system.
How the AirDome Works
The AirDome is placed at the bottom of a pot and covered with the growing medium. When connected to an external air pump, air is forced through the porous blue piping of the dome, creating a constant "bubble" of oxygen. This prevents the substrate at the bottom of the pot from becoming anaerobic (low in oxygen), which is a common issue in bottom-fed systems where the base of the pot remains saturated.
Key Features & Benefits
- Faster Growth Rates: Increased oxygen availability at the roots can lead to significantly faster growth and shorter vegetative periods.
- Higher Yields: Enhanced nutrient absorption and root health directly translate to larger fruit and flower production.
- Pathogen Prevention: By maintaining a highly oxygenated environment, the AirDome inhibits the growth of anaerobic pathogens like root rot (Pythium).
- Easy Integration: Designed to fit perfectly in the base of 8.5L and 15L AutoPot modules, as well as the larger XL pots.
- Low Maintenance: Once installed, the dome requires no mechanical maintenance during the grow cycle.
Technical Specifications & Setup
- Components: Each kit includes a hard-plastic dome base, four lengths of porous blue bubble pipe, a transparent air line, and a T-piece connector.
- Assembly: The blue piping is attached to the dome base to create the aeration surface. This is then connected via the clear line to an air pump.
- Substrate Requirements: For optimal performance, the AirDome should be used with a "light" substrate mix. A ratio of 50% perlite with 50% coco coir or soil is recommended to allow the oxygen to travel freely through the root zone.
- Air Pump Compatibility: Multiple AirDomes can be linked to a single high-output air pump using manifold connectors.
Pro-Tips for Maximum Efficiency
- Placement: Always place the AirDome at the very bottom of the pot before adding your medium.
- Base Layer: Covering the dome with a 1-inch layer of clean clay pebbles (Hydroleca) before adding the rest of your substrate will further improve air distribution.
- Timing: For best results, run your air pump only during the hours your grow lights are on. Plants generally require higher oxygen levels during their active metabolic cycle.
- Temperature Control: In colder environments, the AirDome can help "warm" the root zone if the intake air for the pump is pulled from a warm room.
