AutoPot AQUAvalve: The Powerless Irrigation Controller (6mm & 9mm)

The AQUAvalve is the heart of every AutoPot watering system. It is a simple but highly effective float-operated valve that regulates the flow of water to plants using only gravity and atmospheric pressure. By providing a consistent "Wet and Dry" cycle, the AQUAvalve ensures that plants are never overwatered while maximizing oxygenation in the root zone.

Available in two distinct sizes—the legacy 6mm (AQUAvalve3) and the modern 9mm (AQUAvalve5)—these valves are the global standard for sustainable, electricity-free hydroponics and soil-based gardening.

How the AQUAvalve Works

Unlike standard ball-valves, the AQUAvalve does not keep the tray constantly full. Instead, it allows a tray to fill to a set depth (typically 20mm), then shuts off completely. It will not reopen until the plants have consumed every drop of water in the tray. This prevents stagnant water and mimics natural environmental cycles, leading to explosive plant growth.

AQUAvalve5 (9mm – Grey and Black)

The AQUAvalve5 is the current flagship model from AutoPot. It was developed to meet the needs of modern growers using diverse nutrient programs.

High-Flow Performance: Featuring a significantly larger internal aperture (bore), the 9mm version allows water and nutrients to flow through at a much higher velocity.
Reduced Maintenance: The wider 9mm diameter is far less susceptible to blockages caused by salt buildup or organic sediments.
Compatibility: Designed for use with 9mm (3/8") pipework and the newer 9mm grommets and filters. It is the standard valve for all current AutoPot 1Pot, XL, and Tray2Grow systems.

AQUAvalve3 (6mm – Black and Yellow)

The AQUAvalve3 is the classic "micro-bore" version that established AutoPot’s reputation for reliability.

Precision Control: Optimized for standard mineral nutrient solutions and clean water applications.
Legacy Systems: Primarily used as a replacement part for AutoPot systems manufactured before August 2020.
Compatibility: Designed for use with 6mm (1/4") pipework. While highly reliable, it requires more frequent inspection when using thick nutrient additives to prevent narrow-bore blockages.

Silicone Maintenance: Ensure the small yellow or blue silicone inserts in the float are clean and pressed firmly into place to maintain the watertight seal.
Filtration: Always use the appropriate 6mm or 9mm filter in your reservoir to prevent particulates from reaching the valve mechanism.
